Hartford is proud of their low crime rate and a community that looks out for each other. Meeting the needs of a growing community is no small task, but the City of Hartford and the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department are committed to providing quality Law Enforcement services to the people of Hartford. Seeing a need to increase service, but being mindful of the cost associated with equipping and training a police department, the City of Hartford began contracting with the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department in 1987. This arrangement has allowed both the City of Hartford and the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department to increase the number of officers working in the community.

While the Sheriff's Department may have several officers available to respond at any time, two or more familiar faces you may see around town are Josh Phillips and Steve Maciejewski. Josh is a graduate of West Central High School and has returned to the community to work as the school resource officer. When not busy teaching a class or interacting with students, Josh can be found at one of the numerous sporting events going on at West Central.

Steve Maciejewski has been with the Sheriff's office since 1995 and works directly with the City of Hartford since 2003. Steve has an office available at the City Hall, 125 N. Main Avenue, Hartford or can be reached at 528-7199. If a situation arises that requires an immediate response, please contact Metro communications at 367-7000 or 911.
